How to Receive Christ
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” — John 10:10
Have you discovered the joy and peace of personally accepting Jesus' invitation to life? Perhaps you have believed in God and His Son and tried to live a good life, but have never consciously invited Him to be your Savior and Lord. No matter who you are or what you have done, at this very moment you too can make the decision of a lifetime.
Right now Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart. He has already paid the penalty for your sin. He is asking you, in the quiet of your heart, to put your trust in Him. Here are four spiritual points that will help you know God personally.
God loves you and wants a personal relationship with you.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). “Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3).
Our sin cuts us off from God.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). We were created to have a relationship with God, but because we choose our own independent way, that relationship was broken. “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). People try to bridge the gap through their own efforts, by living a good life or being religious, but the Bible teaches there is only one way.
Jesus Christ is God's only answer for our sin.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). He was buried, He was raised on the third day, and He appeared to Peter, to the twelve, and to more than five hundred (1 Corinthians 15:3-6). Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me” (John 14:6).
We must each receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12). Receiving Christ means turning to God from self and trusting Christ to come into your life and forgive your sins. We receive Him by faith, as an act of the will.
You Can Receive Christ Right Now
God knows your heart and is not so concerned with your words as with the attitude of your heart. Here is a suggested prayer:
